during the 2008 Queen Crowning at the HII Youth Show on July 19th.

2008 Queen's Contest ~ HII Youth Show ~ July 19, 2008

*** 2008 HII Queens ***

Jr. & Sr. Queen will receive $50.00, Photo, Tiara, Sash and a Window Cling.
~
It will not be a requirement for the 2008 Queens to participate in the
Iowa State Cowgirl Queen Contest.
If you do desire to do so, HII will help out with these expenses:
Entry Fee ~ Two Fair Admissions ~ Additional $50.00
These will only be given if you participate in the Cowgirl Queen Contest at State Fair. 

*** Rules for HII Queen Contest ***

All Contestants must be unmarried and a current member of HII.
Anyone winning their division cannot run again in that division the next consecutive year.
Any breed of horse can be used with any discipline of western riding.
Contestants will be judged for overall appearance in western attire,
properly cleaned and fitted tack, performance of the riding pattern,
personality and questionnaire or essay question.
The Jr. & Sr. divisions will be presented and judged separately.

The contest will consist of four elements:

Riding Pattern ~ 30%
Overall Appearance ~ 30%
Interview with Judge ~ 30%
Questionnaire or Essay Question ~ 10%

Please check in at office upon arrival.
You will then be given the Queen's Questionnaire or Essay Question.

Both Queens will have the following obligations during the year of their reign:
AQHA SHOW
APHA SHOW
EOF SHOW
STALLION AUCTION
Presentation of their year's experience at a HII general meeting if asked to do so.

*** Queen's Riding Pattern ***

All Jr. Contestants will enter the arena along the rail.
Judge will ask for a walk - trot - lope in both directions.
Judge will ask Jr. Contestants to line up in center of arena.
One at a time, Jr. Contestant will ride forward and
lope around the arena (left lead) performing the Queen's Salute.
Jr. Queens will come to a stop in front of the announcer's stand and back your horse.
Jr. Queen Contestant will then have a short interview with the Judge.
Jr. Contestant will then go back and enter line up.
After the Jr. Contestants leave the arena then the Sr. Contestants will enter on the rail.
Sr. Queen Contestants will perform the same pattern with exception of the back,
 Sr. Queens will perform a 360.
